How ordering works (NDIS)
1) Apply: If you’re plan-managed, we’ll collect your Plan Manager details and Cookaborough will help manage approvals and account setup.
2) Choose your meals: Pick from our always-available Frozen Faves and weekly specials.
3) Delivery + tracking: Meals arrive frozen with tracking, so you can store them and heat when you’re ready.
Plan-managed vs Self-managed (What’s the difference?)
If you are Plan-Managed
This is the easiest option if you have a Plan Manager.
- You typically pay 30% upfront, and the remaining 70% is invoiced to your Plan Manager (for eligible items).
- Our Cookaborough system supports this process by managing approvals/account setup and invoicing.
Best for: participants who want the lowest admin and a simple weekly ordering routine.
If you are Self-Managed
Self-managed participants usually pay in full and claim back the funded portion.
- You typically pay 100% upfront, then receive a compliant invoice to submit/claim through your self-managed process.
Best for: participants who prefer to manage claims directly and want compliant invoices each order.
Not sure which one you are?
If you’re unsure whether you’re self-managed or plan-managed, ask your support coordinator or plan manager — or message us and we’ll help you work it out.
What NDIS funding generally covers (Meals)
Funding is generally for the preparation and delivery component of meals (not raw ingredients), which is why the split is often structured as 30% customer contribution + 70% invoiced/claimed.
Generally eligible items include:
- Fully prepared, ready-to-eat meals
- Meals tailored to dietary needs (where applicable)
- Packaging and delivery costs
- Support with meal preparation (planning/cooking)
Generally excluded:
- Pantry/grocery items (e.g., sauces, spreads, fruit/veg, bread)
- Meal kits or uncooked ingredients
- Alcohol and beverages
Note: Plan Managers can interpret guidelines differently — if in doubt, check with your Plan Manager first.
For support workers and carers
If you’re ordering on behalf of a participant, you’re very welcome here. We can help with:
- choosing meals that suit preferences and dietaries (where possible)
- setting up favourites for easy reordering
- explaining the Cookaborough process to the participant/Plan Manager
FAQ (NDIS)
Do you do custom meal plans?
We don’t offer formal custom plans, but we do offer dietary-aware options and can sometimes help with simple swaps when it fits the weekly cook.
Is it always frozen?
Frozen — it’s the most reliable way to deliver Australia-wide and gives you flexibility to eat when you want.
Can you help me work out eligibility?
We can help with the process, but your plan manager/coordinator is best placed to confirm what your plan covers.
